George Kittle Says He’s ‘Happy’ Travis Kelce Broke His Record: ‘Gives Me Something Else to Go After’

In the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 17-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons, tight end Travis Kelce set a new record. With his 98-yard game, Kelce broke George Kittle’s Record for most receiving yards in a single season by a tight end.

In 2018, George Kittle recorded 1,377 receiving yards. In Week 16, Kelce surpassed that number and reached 1,416. While the Chiefs might sit Kelce in their week 17 matchup ahead of the playoffs, he may very well extend that record a little more tomorrow.

Although Kelce broke his record, George Kittle claims that he feels good about Kelce breaking his record. Being a massive competitor, Kittle is happy that he now has a record to chase.

“I’m happy that he broke my record,” Kittle said on Travis Kelce. “Because it gives me something else to go after again next year.”

Needless to say, George Kittle will enter the 2021 season hungry.

George Kittle Hypes Up Travis Kelce

George Kittle has been hyping up his fellow tight end all year. The two are undoubtedly two of the best tight ends in the league, so their mutual support makes sense. Kittle first congratulated Kelce after breaking his record with a tweet.

“Raising the bar all year,” Kittle said about Kelce in the tweet. He also retweeted a video of Kelce breaking the record with a receiving touchdown.

As Kittle alluded to in his remarks, they both push each other to be their best just by their competition. For the last several years, Kelce and Kittle have been the top two tight ends in every category.

This year, however, George Kittle was sidelined with a foot injury. He returned after a nearly two-month absence, but could not make up the lost ground on Kelce. Next year, expect to see Kittle coming back with a vengeance.
