Happy Birthday Chad Johnson: Relive the NFL Legend’s 5 Most Memorable Moments

by Madison Miller

Today is legendary football player, Chad Johnson, or Chad Ochocinco’s, 42nd birthday.

He was an NFL wide receiver for 11 seasons where he played with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins. He was with the Bengals for 10 seasons. In 2011, he played in the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.

CNBC named him No.1 on their “Most Influential Athletes In Social Media” list. He is a six-time NFL Pro Bowler and the Bengals’ 40th-anniversary team voted him the number one wide receiver.

Chad Johnson Social Media and Reality Moments

On social media, the former rNFL player has always used his platform to make his fans laugh.

“You think Brett will put me in one of those Wrangler Jeans commercials, straight up, year supply of Wranglers for Esteban?” And “I am dead serious, Madden gamers in Cincy can yall come over and play me in Madden, beating strangers in Madden is quick way 2 kill time!”

Chad Johnson was a controversial player for his celebrations in the touchdown area. This was at a time where the NFL was cutting down on celebrations in order to make the sport look more “serious.”

According to the NFL site, Johnson continues to be infamous for his 2012 arrest. Law enforcement arrested the wide receiver charging him with domestic abuse. He reportedly headbutted his wife, leaving her with a huge gash on her forehead. The two were married for 41 days and had a reality show called “Ev and Ocho.”

Following the arrest, Johnson was cut from the Miami Dolphins, and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, filed for divorce. The two were supposedly arguing over a receipt for condoms that were found in Johnson’s car.

This end to his career will always leave his legacy somewhat sour.

Bengals Win Against Baltimore

The Bengals won a game against the Baltimore Ravens, who were division rivals at the time. Johnson scored a 54-yard touchdown and was alone in the endzone.

Chad Johnson set the football down, picked up the pylon, and used it as a golf club to putt the football a few yards. When the ball stopped moving he did an iconic fist pump.

It is considered one of the greatest celebrations in the history of football. Although the NFL wasn’t a fan at the time, both players and the crowd celebrated right alongside him.

Hall of Fame Debate

In a game with the Baltimore Ravens, again, Chad Johnson scored a touchdown with a pass from Carson Palmer.

He ran to the sidelines instead of celebrating. Fans thought for a second he would just celebrate with his fellow teammates.

However, on the sidelines, he grabbed a golden jacket that said on the back “Future H.O.F. 20??” This celebration shows a level of preparation beyond what most players would ever even consider. He would wait for the perfect moment to show off. Johnson has often debated his ranking amongst other wide receivers and how he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Involving the Cheerleaders

Chad Johnson took to the sidelines again in another one of his celebratory moments. He raced over to the Bengals cheerleaders. Here he picked one, got down on one knee, and pretended to propose to her.

She took a moment to consider before saying yes and embracing the wide receiver.

Terrell Owen’s had a similar celebration where he danced with a cheerleader.

Chad Johnson Breaking Records

While he is known for his eccentric personality and his amazing celebrations in the endzone, none of that would be possible without amazing success in the game.

Chad Johnson has over 10,000 receiving yards just with the Bengals and 67 touchdowns during his career.

His success may likely earn him a place in the Hall of Fame at some point.

Whether it was becoming the cameraman, performing CPR on a football, or making a sign asking to not get fined (then getting fined), Ochocinco sure knew how to make football as entertaining as ever.
