Jake Paul has chosen who he wants to get in the ring with, and it’s a good friend of his last opponent.
According to Mike Coppinger of The Athletic and MMA Fighting, the Youtuber turned pro boxer will take on UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a boxing match.
The date, venue, and ruleset are yet to be announced, but the pair agreed to deal for a match.
Currently, Paul is coming off a first-round knockout against Ben Askren, another former UFC fighter. Tyron Woodley was the member of Askren’s team to watch the hand-wrapping of Paul in Paul’s locker before the fight, where a bit of an altercation broke out between Woodley and Paul’s trainer J’Leon Love.
He will make his professional debut in boxing after his long stint as an MMA fighter. Currently, he holds a 19-7-1 record in mixed martial arts and finished his UFC career on a four-fight losing streak. He had the 170-pound championship for four fights before being taken down by Kamaru Usman in 2019.
Fans can expect the fight to take place on Showtime PPV, as Paul recently signed a deal with the premium cable company earlier this month.
Chuck Liddell Comments On Potential Jake Paul Fight
In other Jake Paul news, former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell, said he doesn’t have interest in a boxing match with Paul, despite some prior trash talk signaled a fight might be in their future.
“He’s not good enough to fight me,” Liddell told TMZ Sports in a recent interview. “It just doesn’t make sense for him. None of it makes sense for this guy. He’s going to risk getting hurt like that?”
Although he was one of UFC’s most accomplished fighters, he’s only fought once since 2010. In 2018, he lost to Tito Ortiz by first-round knockout.
Even though he’s had little time in the ring in the past decade, and most of his fighting experience has come in either MMA or kickboxing, the 51-year-old is confident he would defeat Paul in a boxing match.
“He’s not gonna fight me,” Liddell told TMZ. He’d previously wrote on Twitter he’d be interested in a shot at Paul:
A fight with Liddell would also generate plenty of appeal between the worlds of boxing, MMA, and social media. However, as of now, it doesn’t seem like a Liddell-Paul fight is happening anytime soon.
As for Paul’s brother, Logan, he’s set to face off with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The two will face off on June 6 in an exhibition match.
