Jerry Rice Fires Back at Randy Moss Over GOAT WR Debate: ‘You Got Mossed’

by Thad Mitchell

Legendary NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice certainly has a claim to being the best receiver to ever play the game.

Rice owns several NFL records that are likely to stand for a very long time. The prolific wideout has more than 15,000 career receptions for nearly 23,000 yards and 197 career touchdowns. He also won three NFL championships over the course of a 21-season career. Furthermore, Rice took home a NFL Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award in 1989 with an absurd 11 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown.

With this in mind, it is understandable that Rice may have disagreed with Randy Moss’s ranking of all time NFL pass catchers. Moss, who also had an outstanding NFL career, recently proclaimed himself as the greatest wide receiver of all time. He spent most of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, and dubbed himself the greatest receiver of all time. He then put former 49er Terrell Owens in the number two slot. Moss further slighted Rice by stating he was only “third or fourth” on his all time greats list.

“I’ll put myself first and I’ll put T.O. second,” Moss says on Owens’ podcast. “I would put Jerry probably third or fourth. I’m talking about dominating the game and changing the game of football.”

Jerry Rice Responds to Randy Moss Receiver Rankings

Rice’s highly anticipated response to Moss’s comments came not long after the statement was made. Rice took to social media to compare his career stats to those of Moss. The statistics point heavily in Rice’s claim as the “GOAT” NFL pass catcher. He also uses Moss’s catch phrase “You got Mossed” in his Instagram post.

“You just got MOSSED!” Rice states emphatically.

Moss uses the catchphrase on his television appearances to explain domination of one player over another. The phrase is so popular that ESPN made an entire segment out of it when Moss appears on the network as an analyst.
