NFL broadcaster Jimmy Johnson admits that he doesn’t think anyone will ever beat Tom Brady’s Super Bowl victory record.
It’s not that far fetched of a statement.
Tom Brady has won six Super Bowls already with the New England Patriots. In his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he has already led them to the championship game for the first time since 2002.
However, Jimmy Johnson isn’t just some airhead broadcaster reading words off a screen. Johnson played college football with the Arkansas Razorbacks and even won a National Championship with the team in 1964. Although the next year, Johnson went undrafted. He had served as a head coach for numerous colleges and moved up to coach NFL teams like Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. He also led the Cowboys to two Super Bowl wins.
When it comes to the matchup we will see against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs compared to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jimmy Johnson has his pick for a winner on Sunday.
“But Patrick Mahomes, when we got ready for the Super Bowl last year, watching him, he’s just so special. He can make all the throws. He’s got great vision. He’s mobile, just such a talented quarterback. I can’t go against him and Andy Reid.”
Jimmy Johnson Hypes Up Mahomes
Jimmy Johnson didn’t have enough positive things to say about the 25-year-old quarterback.
“I never thought I would even consider going up against Andy Reid or Patrick Mahomes. Andy is one of the greatest coaches of all time, and Patrick Mahomes is the most talented quarterback I’ve ever seen, including John Elway. Which, I didn’t think anyone would be more talented than Elway.”
Don’t Forget Tom Brady
On the other hand, the 77-year-old broadcaster didn’t undercut the 43-year-old legend. Tom Brady will always be the GOAT to most.
“You know, Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time just because of the record. He’s won more Super Bowls than anybody or anybody will win.”
Jimmy Johnson doesn’t think the Buccaneers will go down without a fight, however.
“But, you look at it, the Buccaneers, you know, they are probably going to get Antonio Brown back, that’ll help. And then with Kansas City with those tackles being injured. With Fisher being out, Todd Bowles has just done such a good job with that Buccaneers defense. He’s going to give Mahomes some problems.”
Super Bowl LV will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay on Sunday, February 7. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on CBS. According to NBC Sports, the Chiefs are favored to win. With Tom Brady, however, it could be anyone’s game.
