The tragic and sudden news of the passing of legendary NFL wideout and former Denver Bronco Super Bowl champion Demaryius Thomas has been felt all over the country. Since the news of his passing, so many of those that knew Thomas and knew him well have posted and shared stories about who the late great wideout was not just as a player but as a person.

Add John Elway to that list of those that Thomas had a tremendous impact on. The Broncos legendary quarterback tweeted out, “There are no words to describe the sudden loss of such a special player and special person. Demaryius overcame tremendous adversity in his life, growing into a great leader and one of the very best. He was light-hearted, easy going and loved by everyone. We will miss you, D.T.”

Elway clearly loved and admired Demaryius Thomas not only as a player on the field but as a person off the field as well.

The Broncos Mourn Demaryius Thomas

In an official statement by the organization via the team website the Broncos said, “We are devastated and completely heartbroken by the sudden, tragic passing of Demaryius Thomas.”

The statement continued, “D.T. was beloved by our entire organization, his teammates and coaches, and our fans. Recently retiring as a Bronco, we were very much looking forward to celebrating Demaryius for years to come as one of the greatest players in franchise history.”

Thomas was a legend in Denver. Perhaps the most well-known play in his NFL career was the game-winning touchdown grab he had with Tim Tebow under center in Denver. The game was years ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thomas got open in the middle of the field off a slant pattern and Tebow hit him in stride. Nobody caught him as Thomas sent the Broncos into the next round of the NFL playoffs.

Peyton Manning on The Late Wideout

It was not until Peyton got to Denver before the Broncos really took off and won a Super Bowl, though. Manning remembered Demaryius Thomas as well saying, “D.T. was a better person than he was a player, and he was a Hall of Fame player.”

Thomas continued, “That tells you how good of a person he was. He treated my kids like they were his own. He was there for every teammate’s charity event. I texted with D.T. on Tuesday. He was talking about a TD audible we called vs. Arizona in 2014. Absolutely devastated.”

The notes don’t end with Elway and Manning, though. So, Demaryius Thomas made a huge impact on so many lives. Not just his teammates. Everyone he worked within his volunteer efforts, all the friends he had and everywhere else. His sudden passing hurts many. However, it is clear that he will be greatly missed because of all the great attributes he had as a person. His impact was strong in so many areas.
