Late WWE Star Shad Gaspard’s Wife Sues for Wrongful Death in Drowning Incident

Siliana Gaspard, wife of the WWE star, Shad Gaspard, is suing Los Angeles for her husband’s death.

Gaspard recently filed a wrongful death suit against the city of Los Angeles, LA County, and the state of California for the death of her husband. The former WWE star drowned in early May this year after getting caught in a riptide while swimming with his son in Venice Beach.

Lifeguards saved his 10-year-old son, Aryeh, as per Gaspard’s instruction to save his son first. However, the guards were unable to rescue Gaspard. Widow Gaspard is now suing with several claims of negligence. She says that there were not enough signs warning swimmers of the water’s conditions. Additionally, she alleges that lifeguards were slow to react, poorly trained, understaffed, and lacking proper equipment when attempting to save her son and husband.

Wife Claims Shad Gaspard’s Death Was Due To ‘Negligence’

According to court documents, Gaspard says that when lifeguards noticed her husband and son struggling in the water, “they did not do anything for an unreasonable and negligent amount of time.” Gaspard says that the city beach was “negligently understaffed compared to how they normally are.” Additionally, Gaspard’s claim states that lifeguards were “Negligent in the lack of proper training and supervision which caused the death of Shad Gaspard.”

During an interview, Lifeguard Services said, the riptide current pulled Gaspard’s son 25-35 yards out when the lifeguard rescued him. When the guards returned to rescue Shad, the rip current had pulled him out an additional 50-65 yards. This pulled him almost 100 yards offshore.

“This all happened in just a moment’s notice,” the lifeguards said.

Gaspard is seeking an unspecified amount for financial damages and burial costs. A hearing is scheduled for June 6, 2021 at LA Superior Court.
