LeBron James Excitedly Responds to Los Angeles Lakers Re-Signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

LeBron James couldn’t conceal its excitement over the signing. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope got a big thumbs up from the King.

On Saturday, James, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar tweeted “YESSIR! … Congrats my brother.”

James used all caps and multiple exclamation points. When you’re a scoring machine like James, you celebrate the news when the team resigns the point guard. James and Caldwell-Pope share the same sports agency, Klutch Sports.

It’s Not Kind of Money LeBron James Makes, but Caldwell-Pope Deal is Great Money

Caldwell-Pope probably was popping some champagne corks, too. ESPN reported that Caldwell-Pope signed a three-year deal worth $40 million. That’s some nice cash. It’s not LeBron kind of money. James is set to make $39 million next season. But it’s definitely a nice deal.

Caldwell-Pope averaged he averaged 10.7 points per game during the Lakers playoff run to the NBA title. He scored 17 in game six of the NBA Finals, when the Lakers clinched the title against Miami.

The Detroit Pistons drafted Caldwell-Pope with the eighth pick of the 2013 draft. He spent four seasons as a Piston before signing with the Lakers.

The point guard was a great supporting player for James. He played nice defense and was effective from three-point range. Caldwell-Pope hit a career-best 38.7-percent of his three-point shots during the regular season. He made 92 treys. That was third-best on the Lakers.

Caldwell-Pope re-signed with Los Angeles in 2019. His two-year deal was worth $16.6 million. He had an option year for this coming season. It was worth $8.5 million. He declined to take it. Given the amount of money he commanded, it was a good business decision.

The Los Angeles Times reported that both the New York Knicks and the Atlanta Hawks were interested in signing Caldwell-Pope.

The Lakers also announced the signing of forward Wesley Matthews and center Montrezl Harrell.
