McKayla Maroney ‘Couldn’t Stop Throwing Up’ Before Hospitalization for Kidney Stone

Former Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney gave her fans an update after stomach pain sent her to the emergency room.

On her Instagram Stories, the 25-year-old shared a photo from the emergency room, revealing that doctors discovered she had kidney stones. “Just got my CT scan back. I have a few kidney stones,” she said. Maroney lies in a hospital bed with a pink mask pulled below her chin, as seen in the snap.

“Tuesday I was throwing up all day, with severe pain in my back and stomach,” Maroney wrote atop the photo. “Had to come to ER at 3am because pain kept getting worse, and I couldn’t stop throwing up.” Thankfully, kidney stones are relatively common and easy to treat, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, Maroney didn’t share how long it would be until doctors released her from the hospital.

McKayla Maroney Looks For Justice Following Abuse

After two years away from social media, the gold medalist now regularly shares selfies and updates with her fans. Even though she’s retired from professional gymnastics, she’s pursuing other interests. Last year, the athlete also released her first single, titled “Wake Up Call.”

McKayla Maroney has been using her following to call for accountability from USA Gymnastics for allowing Larry Nassar to abuse athletes. Maroney came forward in 2017 to reveal that she was one of many athletes who Nassar sexually abused.

“@USAGym & @TeamUSA (the USOC) have still taken zero responsibility for what happened with Larry Nassar. I was minor and molested twice a day under their care, in Texas, Tokyo, London, and Belgium while winning THEM Gold medals!” she wrote on Twitter, sharing a clip of fellow Olympic gymnast Simone Biles speaking about the scandal. “I’M SO TIRED OF TALK. Give these women justice.”

McKayla Maroney added, “I really shouldn’t have to keep bringing up this dark part of my life, & making it so public, just to help push these organizations to bring justice to the hundreds of women they let down. I want to heal from this, but change can’t happen without accountability. @[email protected]
