Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney was admitted into the ER Thursday after “severe pain” in her back and stomach, she tells her Instagram followers.

The young Olympian, 25, is letting her 1.3 million Instagram followers know that she is in the hospital Thursday. Sharing a selfie and a shot of the ER to her stories on the platform, Maroney reveals she has painful kidney stones.

Within her first shot, Maroney lies on her back in her hospital bed, and is clearly in a lot of pain.

“Tuesday I was throwing up all day, with severe pain in my back and stomach,” the athlete writes over her photo. “Had to come to ER at 3am because pain kept getting worse, and I couldn’t stop throwing up.”

Shortly after, her doctors had both good and bad news. The good news: they know what’s causing the pain, and it’s easily treatable. The bad news?

“Just got my CT scan back. I have a few kidney stones,” she tells followers.

Thankfully, kidney stones (a relatively common occurrence, though typically for older patients) are easily treatable. The stones usually resolve in several days – or at most, a week or two, Mayo Clinic cites.

As for McKayla Maroney and her kidney stones, however, the Olympian did not specify how long she expects to be in the hospital.

McKayla Maroney Works to Expose Olympics’ Dark History

Maroney was amongst those who came forward in 2017 in effort to reveal the horrific sexual abuse of USA Gymnastics predator Larry Nassar. Thanks in part to her testimony, Nassar saw justice in January 2018.

Ever since, McKayla Maroney has been using her platform alongside social media to bring more attention to the ongoing issue – past and present. Recently, she is pushing for accountability from USA Gymnastics for the organization allowing Nassar’s predatory abuse to continue for as long as it did.

“@USAGym & @TeamUSA (the USOC) have still taken zero responsibility for what happened with Larry Nassar. I was minor and molested twice a day under their care, in Texas, Tokyo, London, and Belgium while winning THEM Gold medals!” McKayla Maroney wrote on Twitter. Within, she also shares a clip of teammate Simone Biles speaking about the scandal during 60 minutes. “I’M SO TIRED OF TALK. Give these women justice,” she adds.

“I really shouldn’t have to keep bringing up this dark part of my life, & making it so public… Just to help push these organizations to bring justice to the hundreds of women they let down. I want to heal from this, but change can’t happen without accountability. @[email protected],” McKayla Maroney follows with another tweet.
