Meet Tiger Woods’ Ex-Wife Elin Nordegren

by Emily Morgan

In the wake of Tiger Woods’ recent car crash that left him hospitalized, many are looking back at Woods’ life. It’s impossible to talk about Tiger Woods without considering his ex-wife and mother to his two children, Ellin Nordegren.

Nordegren, born in 1980, is a Swedish model and former nanny. According to The Sun, she graduated from Rollins College in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later received her Registered Mental Health Counselor license in 2018.

Her parents, who divorced when she was young, are well known in their home country. Nordegren’s father was a radio journalist and correspondent for Swedish Radio in Washington, D.C. Her mother was Sweden’s migration minister from 2003 to 2006.

She met Tiger Woods two decades ago during the 2001 Open Championship. The Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik introduced Nordegren to Woods. Soon after meeting, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren began dating and tied the knot three years later. They got married on October 5, 2004, in a private ceremony in Barbados. Together, they had two children: a girl in 2007 and a boy in 2009.

Couple’s Difficulties and 2010 Divorce

Five years after getting married, the couple was the center of controversy when Tiger Woods was involved in a scandal. Even though the marriage was seemingly going well, all that changed in November 2009, when Nordegren discovered her husband’s infidelity.

Tiger Woods “lost control of his SUV” near his Florida home according to ESPN. Woods’ vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree in a neighbor’s yard. Nordegren had to smash the car windows with a golf club to get Woods out of the car.

“She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground,” police chief Saylor told the AP at the time. “He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there.” Officials revealed that Woods took painkillers and sleeping pills.

The same night, Nordegren discovered Tiger Woods’ cheating after going through his phone. She confirmed that he had a mistress named Rachel Uchitel. In addition to Uchitel, other women also confirmed that they were also having an affair with Woods. By 2010, the couple had officially divorced. Nordegren, 30 years old at the time, walked away with $100 million in the divorce settlement.

In the years following, Nordegren had an on-again-off-again relationship with billionaire Chris Cline. However, they split in 2017, and Cline died in a helicopter crash in 2019. Today, 41-year-old Nordegren is in a relationship with former Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins tight end Jordan Cameron. Together, they welcomed a baby boy in February of 2019.

Today, Wood and Nordegren have come a long way since the events of 2009. They’re successful co-parents to their children and remain close.”We communicate so much better now, it’s incredible,” Tiger Woods once said. “I wish we would have done that earlier on, but it’s been incredible to have a best friend like that.”
