Michael Strahan posted a photo on Instagram poking fun at himself for his famous tooth gap.
Some people know him as a defensive end with the New York Giants where he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and won the Super Bowl XLII. Others know Strahan as a beloved tv host on Good Morning America. Regardless of where you know him from, almost everyone recognizes his tooth gap.
Why Hasn’t Michael Strahan Fixed His Gap?
Most people have come to accept the gap as a charming and recognizable trait. However, others have wondered why with all his fame and success, Strahan hasn’t taken the steps to close the gap in his teeth. During an interview for Elle, Strahan opened up about a time when he thought about “fixing” his teeth.
“I was really close to closing it up,” Strahan said. “I was at the dentist having him do mock-ups.”
But Strahan said that, ultimately, he chose to opt-out of the procedure.
“I was in my twenties. I was playing with the Giants,” he said. “There’s so much pressure to be perfect. You can fix everything now. For me, I made the conscious effort to say, ‘This is who I am. I’m not perfect. I don’t want to try to be perfect…'”
Strahan also joked that his kids wouldn’t recognize him without the gap. “At this point, I don’t think my kids would recognize me without it. They’d be like, ‘Who is this stranger in the house? Call 911!'”
Strahan Is A Model Of Self Acceptance
Not only has he confidently accepted himself, but Strahan is also able to gently poke fun at himself. In a post on Instagram, Strahan drew a gap on an emoji and wrote, “GAP ADDED ✅” Strahan can serve as a role model for all who are learning to fully embrace themselves, their supposed flaws and all.
