The Florida Gators football team has struggled mightily this year and a majority of the blame falls directly on Dan Mullen. After getting odd to a decent season earlier this year, the Gators football team fell flat. They currently have a 5-6 record overall and an abysmal 2-6 record inside the SEC East.
Dan Mullen and his Gator team also recently lost games to traditionally inferior programs such as South Carolina, Missouri and LSU. That won’t cut it for a program that expects to compete for National Titles on a yearly basis. Dan Mullen was also not well-liked among other SEC coaches who he rubbed the wrong way on multiple occasions.
One of those coaches is University of Missouri Head Football Coach Eli Drinkwitz, who said his piece this week. The Missouri Tigers put the final nail into the Dan Mullen coffin with a 24-23 win over the Gators. Known as a brilliant offensive mind, Mullen’s offense just did not click at all during the 2021 season. Drinkwitz, the son of a farmer used a farming analogy to describe Dan Mullen’s situation.
“Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz explaining the irony of beating Gators and Dan Mullen after last year’s near brawl,” the social media post reads.
“My father was a farmer, and there’s an old saying you reap what you sow,” Drinkwitz says in a recent media event. “If you sow kindness, you reap kindness. If you sow jackass, you reap jackass.”
Someone should embroider the Missouri coach’s words onto a pillow or a t-shirt or something. Wise words there from the Tigers head football coach.
Dan Mullen Relieved of Head Coaching Duties at Florida
Dan Mullen had a successful run as head coach of the Florida Gators but things were crumbling within the program. Mullen spent three years as Florida’s offensive coordinator under then-head coach Urban Meyer before taking the head coaching position at Mississippi State. After a successful run with the Bulldogs, he returned to Florida as the head coach in 2018. He compiled a 34-15 record in just four seasons but is just 13-10 over the past two years. That isn’t cut it at the University of Florida, where the expectations are set very high.
All eyes are on the Florida Gators team as they look for Dan Mullen’s replacement. Louisiana head coach Billy Napier, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell and Alabama Offensive Coordinator Bill O’Brien are believed to be among the candidates to take over head coaching duties.
As for Dan Mullen — he’s a good coach and will land on his feet somewhere in the near future.
