Things got out of hand at an MMA event on Thursday night… literally. Khetag Pliev had his finger ripped off during his fight against Devin Goodale on the Cage Fury Fighting Championship card in Philadelphia.

Craziest part? Pliev wasn’t going to stop fighting. Thankfully the referee stepped in and stopped the fight when he realized what was going on.

ESPN reports that it took minutes to find the missing part of the finger. The announcer even asked spectators to look around for it over the PA.

Turns out, the finger got caught inside Pliev’s glove. We will spare you the gruesome footage. But if you absolutely must watch, here it is.

“In the second round, he caught my glove with one hand and held it. I felt my finger snapped. He kept pulling my glove and my finger snapped. We kept fighting. When the second round was finished, I see my [bone] was out in the open. I wanted to keep fighting, because I felt like I had this guy. But the doctor saw that and stopped the fight,” the fighter told ESPN.

To make matters worse for Pliev, the stoppage resulted in Devin Goodale being named winner by TKO.

Rob Haydak, the promoter of the event, said, “It was crazy. He didn’t even flinch. He was getting ready to do the [official] decision and I was like, ‘Uh, guys, get him out of the cage and go put his finger back on.'”

MMA Fighter Will Appeal Result of The Fight

Khetav Pliev feels that the grabbing of his hands by Devin Goodale (an illegal move) should be reviewed. According to ESPN, Pliev is going to appeal his loss with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission.

Rob Haydak said that the Cage Fury Fighting Championship will go over the footage as well.

Fans will be relieved to know that Pliev’s finger has been successfully reattached. This image isn’t nearly as gory, but you can check out the stitch work here.

The pure violence of MMA is often lost in the big personalities and trash talk. The incident on Thursday night is a reminder of just how crazy the sport can get.
