Keeping with the trend of different NASCAR winners each week, Alex Bowman just took victory at Richmond Raceway.

After Denny Hamlin was leading for over half the race, things got dicey late. With 10 laps to go, Bowman roared forward in his No. 48 car to take the lead, and never looked back.

Bowman is now the ninth different winner in the NASCAR Cup Series. It also marks another weekend where Hamlin, NASCAR’s point leader, racked up a ton of points but didn’t cross the finish line first. He led a total of 207 laps of the Toyota Owners 400.

Alex Bowman Comments After Win

Just after he exited the vehicle for his victory celebration, NASCAR caught up with Alex Bowman to get his feelings after a late win. This is without mentioning that the driver and his team suffered a pit-road penalty.

Midway through his answer, Bowman gets a bit teary-eyed as he remembers the death of crew member William “Rowdy” Harrell.

“It’s just a badass racecar,” Alex Bowman said. “[Crew Chief] Greg Ives and all the guys, they gotta deal with me in short tracks and I drive these places really wrong. Instead of making me figure it out, we went to work on getting the racecar to where I need it to be and Greg has done such an amazing job at making that happen. First and foremost, got to thank Ally, Chevrolet and everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. This one’s for Rowdy and his family, miss him and Blakely every day. Means the world to win for Ally and definitely emotional obviously.”

It’s a touching but heartbreaking moment. For those unaware, William Harrell and his wife died in a car crash last fall while on the way to their honeymoon. The loss is obviously still hard on Alex Bowman, but this win as tribute is a fantastic way to remember the crew member.
