Alex Bowman has his fourth career NASCAR Cup Series win and his second win of the 2021 season as the No. 48 driver took victory on Sunday.
In a tightly contested battle that saw the 28-year-old and Kyle Larson duel for the finish, the former was victorious. The pair and teammates gave NASCAR fans plenty to get excited about as Larson was looking strong for the majority of the race, but was just eclipsed by Bowman.
Kyle Larson took both of the race’s first two stages, earning 20 total points in the race for the cup. With just over 60 laps to go, however, Alex Bowman overtook Kyle Larson and never looked back.
You can watch Bowman take the checkered flag in the video below.
Speaking of Hendrick Motorsports, May 16th’s race at Dover marked a huge day for the racing team. The top four places were all taken by Hendrick drivers. While Bowman and Larson took first and second respectively, Chase Elliot and William Byron locked up the third and fourth spots.
It’s not often you see a racing team claim the majority of the top five places, but the folks over at Hendrick Motorsports can take pride in the rare feat.
Other Notable Results from NASCAR at the ‘Monster Mile’
After the display from the four drivers above, Joey Logano was able to wrap up the fifth spot. The finish marks the fifth top-five finish of the season for the 30-year-old, who nabbed a win at Bristol.
Behind Logano, Kevin Harvick crossed the finish line in sixth, and Denny Hamlin followed in seventh. For Hamlin, that is a staggering 10th top-10 finish in the NASCAR season this year. Hamlin already had a sizable lead at the top of the standings, and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
Tyler Reddick, Daniel Suarez and Cole Custer all finished out the top 10 at the “Monster Mile.” Meanwhile, Bubba Wallace earned his best finish of the season by following in at the 11th spot.
