Brad Keselowksi was not happy after his hopes for a Daytona 500 victory literally went up in smoke on Sunday (Feb. 14). Well, to say he “was not happy” is an understatement. As a matter of fact, Keselowski was furious. And really, who can blame him?
The official Twitter account of NASCAR captured Keselowski’s anger and shared it with the caption, “Frustration.” Check out the photo of the driver of the No. 2 Ford letting his fury show on Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. Also, check out the damage to his race car.
In commenting on the results of the Daytona 500, Brad Keselowski posted the following on Twitter: “I was NOT grateful in this moment or the remainder of the moments directly after the race. It takes me a good while to calm down and gain perspective. Thank you for your patience.”
Brad Keselowski, Others End Daytona 500 in Fiery Crash
So, what happened during Sunday’s Daytona 500 that unleashed Brad Keselowski’s fury? According to an article by NBCSports.com, the driver was making a push on the final lap of the race in an effort to get his first career Daytona 500 victory.
Keselowski was basically trying to pass his teammate Joey Logano to take the lead. Without a doubt, the cars made contact. This sent Keselowski’s car into the race track wall. To make matters worse, it put him in the way of Kyle Busch. Several drivers then saw their hopes of finishing the race fade away, as a wreck ensued.
“I had a big run down the backstretch,” Keselowski said, according to NBCSports. “Went to make the pass to win the Daytona 500, and it ended up really bad. Don’t feel like I made a mistake, but I can’t drive everyone else’s car. Frustrating.”
Had he won Sunday’s race, Keselowski would have been only the second active NASCAR driver to win all four of the sports “crown jewels,” according to NBCSports. In addition to the Daytona 500, this list includes the Southern 500, Brickyard 500, and the Coca-Cola 500.
Michael McDowell went on to win the 2021 Daytona 500. After the wreck, the top 10 finishers at Sunday’s Daytona 500 were: No. 9 Chase Elliott; No. 3 Austin Dillon; No. 4 Kevin Harvick; No. 11 Denny Hamlin; No. 37 Ryan Preece; No.42 Ross Chastain; No. 77 Jamie McMurray; No. 7 Corey LaJoie; and No. 5 Kyle Larson.

Sixteen Cars Involved in Another Wreck During Daytona 500
In addition to the wreck in the final lap of the Daytona 500, there was a wreck involving 16 cars during the 15th lap of the race.
