NASCAR: Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick’s Beef Continues To Escalate at Roval

by Jonathan Howard

As the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs have gone on, drama has built between Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick, which continued at Roval. Charlotte was the last race in the Round of 12 and there were four drivers who spent all day on Sunday trying to make the top-8.

Two drivers that had to race for their Playoffs hopes were Elliott and Harvick. Back at Bristol Motor Speedway, the No. 9 and the No. 4 got into a bit of a wreck. When the smoke was still clearing, the two drivers exchanged words and it has been clear the distaste they have for each other. After a collision with Harvick again, it seemed Elliott and his crew were headed for familiar territory.

If this was some form of retribution from Harvick to Elliott, it didn’t do him any favors in the end. He suffered damage to the front of his own car. Elliott kept racing and was able to recover as well. They both fell in and out of the top-8 over the course of the day, however, a wreck into turn one would end the day for Harvick before the checkered flag.

That wreck ended his day while Chase Elliott went on to claim a spot in the next round of the Cup Series Playoffs. After Kevin Harvick wrecked out at the turn, one word came from Elliott’s team. “Karma”. Just on the edge of catching Brad Keselowski, Harvick’s day was finished with just 11 laps to go.

In the end, Elliott had some farewell words for his fellow NASCAR driver and rival.

So, the field of eight has been set for the next round. It is only a matter of time before we have a champion. There have been some standouts, but you never know in NASCAR.

Chase Elliott Survives, Makes The Round of 8

While there was plenty of drama a little further back in the field with Chase Elliott, things up front were also heated. However, that was due to the tight race for first. There was a group of about five drivers, each threatening to take the lead at any moment.

Despite the tough competition, the regular-season champion could not be stopped. Kyle Larson found himself taking the checkered flag, something even he was surprised with.

“Did not see myself standing in victory lane next to this cool trophy today. We had battery issues, had to come from the back so many different times,” Larson recalled after the race. “But my team, they kept their heads in it, stayed calm, got the work done to get us repaired and out there and where we could compete hard. So just hats off to everybody on our 5 team. Pretty unbelievable day.”

The Round of Eight begins at the Texas Motor Speedway next week on October 17. Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blany, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch are all moving on to the next round.
