NASCAR icon Denny Hamlin unveils his new paint scheme while honoring victims of recent violence.

Denny Hamlin started racing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2006. Since then, he’s accumulated 44 career Cup victories and has raced in the playoffs every year except 2013. Additionally, Hamlin has finished in the top ten 287 times in 550 Cup Series races. But Hamlin is more than just a driver, he’s also simply a good guy. After the recent violence that occurred at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Denny Hamlin decided to show support for all the victims and their family. Eight people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire at a FedEx Ground center in Indianapolis.

As one of his sponsors, FedEx was slated to be his car’s paint theme for Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 in Richmond. But, instead of simply going for a traditional FedEx paint scheme, Hamlin opted for something more moving. He customized his paint scheme to honor everyone involved in the FedEx incident.

Hamlin shared photos of the new FedEx paint job that he sported during the race. The paint scheme included a black ribbon with “INDY” in white type over it to honor the victims. The trending hashtag “fedexstrong” was also written across the back of the car. Along with the photos, he wrote, “Racing for our @FedEx family today and thinking especially of the Indianapolis team members. Stay #fedexstrong

Denny Hamlin Honors The Eight Victims Of Violence With His FedEx Hat During Post-Race Interview

According to Fox Sports NASCAR reporter Bob Pockrass, Hamlin’s car was changed from a FedEx Express scheme to a Ground scheme as a tribute for everyone involved in the incident. Pockrass Tweeted, “Hamlin car paint scheme was changed from an Express scheme to a Ground scheme for the race today and will have a black ribbon Indy decal on it and #fedexstrong”

But Denny Hamlin didn’t stop with just the paint scheme. He also wrote the names of the eight lives that were taken during the incident on his hat that said “#FedExStrong.” Hamlin finished second in the race and wore the hat during his post-race interview. One fan noticed the hat and posted about it on Twitter. She wrote, “This was really special to see on the track today. @dennyhamlin finished 2nd while honoring the 8 lives that were taken this week. He wore this hat with all their names in his post race interview. #fedexstrong”
