NASCAR: Did Bubba Wallace Put a Hidden Message in Car’s New Paint Job?

Bubba Wallace just revealed a secret detail in his new car’s paint job. Is there a deeper meaning behind the design?

Certainly, Bubba Wallace has been an advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement. Last year, Bubba wore a Black Lives Matter t-shirt during pre-race ceremonies. A week later, he called upon NASCAR to ban all Confederate flags from race tracks.

Later in the year, Richard Petty Motorsports unveiled a blackout paint scheme that prominently featured the Black Lives Matter hashtag. The car also featured a graphic of a black hand and a white hand interlocked on the hood of the car above the words “Compassion, Love, Understanding.”

Recently, Bubba Wallace shared a photo of his logo hidden in the camouflage paint scheme on his new car. Traditionally, his logo has featured his initials “B” and “W” with a hand in the shape of the rockstar/sign of the horns hand gesture in the middle. However, his most recent pic of his car’s new paint job has some fans thinking the hand in the logo is in a different shape. The potentially new logo shows the index finger pointing up to show a “we’re number one” hand gesture. However, the hand in the new logo slightly resembles the hand in the Black Lives Matter logo. Some fans are wondering if Bubba Wallace is continuing to show his support for the movement with the logo.

Fans may have grown used to the red, white and black car Bubba Wallace drove for his first three races with 23XI Racing. The car featured DoorDash as the main sponsor in the paint scheme. However, after he joined 23XI Racing, Columbia Sportswear joined Bubba as a sponsor. For his race on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Wallace will showcase his partnership with Columbia Sportswear. The car prominently features the company’s logo on the hood of the car along with their sky-blue color.

During a press conference, Wallace shared why the company is a natural fit for him.

“Columbia Sportswear is a perfect fit for my lifestyle away from the track. I love spending time outdoors — boating, golfing, hiking, photography — just anything to help me decompress from a hectic racing schedule,” said Wallace. “I’m beyond excited to be a part of the Columbia family and can’t wait to work with them on some unique content and fly their colors.”

Bubba Wallace will be switching up his primary sponsors throughout the year. So you can likely expect to see new paint jobs highlighting Dr. Pepper, Root Insurance, and McDonald’s before the season ends.
