After Denny Hamlin sent Kurt Busch into the wall Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the XI23 driver joked he was late to a meeting because he was out buying flowers to make amends. Kurt Busch fired back with a GIF showing how well he thinks that went.
The video clip shows a car barrelling through a flower shop, similar to how things went Sunday at the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. Hamlin clipped Busch’s car and sent him into the wall. Kurt Busch doesn’t believe Hamlin was acting intentionally, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgiving Hamlin. That said, Kurt is still pretty upset about the timing of the wreck since it happened during a restart.
“It looks like he didn’t do anything vicious or malicious there,” Busch said. “It’s just…dude, bro, it’s a 500-miler. These are the days that hurt the worst. This absolutely hurts the worst because we had a top-five, Monster Energy-winning Chevy, and I’m sitting here talking with you guys. I’m pretty pissed off. It’s a restart. Where are we going to go, man? Just chill.”
And regardless if Hamlin meant it or not, Kurt is going to make him pay. Let’s not forget the Busch brothers didn’t speak for over a year after a contentious race.
Ryan Blaney took the checkered flag Sunday. He was followed by Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman. Hamlin finished fourth Sunday, and Kurt Busch’s older brother Kyle finished fifth.
Hamlin’s Instagram Photo Sends Fans into Frenzy
Shortly after Sunday’s Race, Denny Hamlin posted a photo of himself wearing a mask with a caption that some fans felt were inappropriate.
“Looking forward to turning these top 5 runs into wins,” Denny Hamlin said in his post. Some fans took it that he was being glib after the wreck with Kurt Busch.
Social media erupted with takes on the crash during and after the race.
“Don’t worry @KurtBusch you didn’t deserve to be put into the wall like that, @dennyhamlin is a [poop emoji.]”
Another user, didn’t hold back on Denny Hamlin.
“Oh look, Denny talks crap yesterday and then dumps a guy today. Classless racer and just runs guys over instead of racing clean. Bravo @dennyhamlin,” another someone else tweeted.
The onslaught continued with @Allbrick55.
“Get so tired of @dennyhamlin acting like he never does anything wrong!” yet another writes. “No matter how you look at it…He dumped @KurtBusch Yes Denny off the front of your bumper the #1 went spinning! Pissed isn’t the word!!! Especially when Kurt had a top 5 car! @NASCAR#FoldsofHonorQuikTrip500.”
