2022 may be an exciting racing season for NASCAR fans. After successfully expanding the 2021 Cup Series schedule, NASCAR is considering adding another track.

NASCAR has been growing in popularity over the past few years, and to keep the momentum going, they are considering adding more tracks to their series.

Sport Business Journal’s Adam Stern announced in a tweet that NASCAR is considering a track in St. Louis and another in LA.

“@NASCAR has held discussions with @WWTRaceway-Gateway in recent months about potentially awarding the track a ’22 Cup Series race, per sources,” he announced. “Though the current status of the talks is unclear.”

He followed by adding, ” The @LAColiseum short track idea is another one NASCAR has continued to explore.”

In 2021, NASCAR added Circuit of the Americas, Road America, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course to their list of tracks. We’re sure fans are excited to see what’s in store for the racing season next year.

Emmitt Smith Becomes Team Owner In NASCAR

Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith is the proud new owner of a NASCAR team. Smith is partnering with Jesse Iwuji beginning next year. The two met in 2020 when Smith sponsored Iwuji’s Xfinity car.

Iwuji grew up rooting for Smith when he played for the Dallas Cowboys, so partnering with the former NFL player is a dream come true.

“I’ve been following Emmitt since I was a kid, and football was my thing,” said Iwuji during an interview, “As a kid living in Dallas, following the Cowboys winning three Super Bowls in the ‘90s, I started playing and told my dad that my position is going to be running back. He told me to watch the Cowboys, watch Emmitt Smith, that’s his position, and that I’m going to be like Emmitt.

When asked about joining the NASCAR family, Smith commented with “NASCAR is one of those things that obviously is a pastime for a lot of folks, and a lot of folks that don’t look like Jesse and myself.”

Smith wanted to change that by helping Iwuji because a big name in the sport.

In a tweet last October, Iwuji welcomed Smith the NASCAR by unveiling a flashy new race car.

“Welcome to @nascar Mr @EmmittSmith22,” he wrote. In a video, he and Smith pull the cover off a white and blue Camaro.

Smith commented that he’s looking to “break barriers” in the sport and looks forward to his first race in 2022.
