WATCH: Incredible National Anthem Performance by Military Member Before Daytona 500

by Evan Reier

It isn’t the Daytona 500 without a rousing rendition of the National Anthem, and the 2021 edition delivered.

For this year’s race, Daytona elected for a classic performance without a ton of flash. Just straight-up American goodness. Air Force Technical Sergeant Sam Allen delivered the performance, seen below.

Daytona International Speedway tweeted out video of the performance. Alongside, they provide the caption:

“An incredible National Anthem, capped off with the @AFThunderbirds soaring overhead!”

Not only is the finale of the anthem shown, but it’s also a perfect show of the Thunderbirds flying over the track. The roar of the jets and the crowd perfectly sets the tone ahead of the Great American Race.

Drivers Fly with Thunderbirds Shown in National Anthem Clip

A classic tradition of the Daytona 500 is certain drivers getting to ride with the famed Thunderbirds that fly overhead each year.

For the 2021 edition of the race, drivers Ross Chastain and Chase Briscoe received the fortune of taking flight. In a recent post, NASCAR tweeted out some great photos of the pair getting suited up.

“A tradition unlike any other … is back! @RossChastain and @ChaseBriscoe_14 took flight over @DAYTONA with the @AFThunderbirds before the #DAYTONA500.”

Last year, Denny Hamlin claimed victory at Daytona International Speedway for the second-straight year. The now-40-year-old added to this total of 44 NASCAR Cup victories, as well as joining an elite club of driving legends.

Besides Hamlin, only Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough and Sterling Marlin have ever won the race in back-to-back years. This year, Hamlin will attempt to become the first-ever to win in three-straight years.

However, he’ll face stiff competition from the field, including from partner Bubba Wallace. Wallace is racing for 23XI Racing this year, a new venture started by Michael Jordan and Hamlin.
