National Championship Winners Celebrate First Title Since 1980
The Bulldogs knocked off Alabama’s Crimson Tide on Monday night at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. In what is their first national title since 1980, Georgia secured a 33-18 win over Alabama during the rivalry match-up.
It was a perfect mix of teamwork among Bulldogs players Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett, and the spot-on defense brought onto the field by the Georgia team that secured the Bulldog’s first national championship win in over forty years.
During the game, Stetson Bennet launched a historic throw adding to the Bulldog’s success in the field. It was certainly a moment the player who started as a walk-on for the Georgia team will never forget.
The Georgia quarterback’s emotional moment as he celebrated the well-earned national championship title with his fellow Bulldogs was caught on video shortly following the victory. Stetson Bennet is in tears as he hugs his teammates celebrating their triumph over the team’s longtime rivals.
“From walk-on to national champion,” notes the PFF College sports Twitter page shortly after the Bulldog sealed in their championship win.
“What a journey for Stetson Bennett,” the tweet continues along with the emotional victory video.
The last time the Georgia Bulldogs – who went 14-1 this season – won a national title was with freshman Herschel Walker. Walker led the team to a victory all the way back in 1980. Of course, the fact that this 2022 Dawg Nation victory came from a match-up against the longtime Crimson Tide rival made the victory that much better for Georgia fans.
