The outpouring of love and support for rapper DMX in the wake of his death says a lot about the hip-hop icon. People from all walks of life have been paying tribute, including the likes of Gracie McGraw and Shaq.
Earl “DMX” Simmons was a renaissance man. In addition to his music, the rapper of “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” fame also had a talent for acting. And while he often played himself in things like “The After Party” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” DMX showed off his acting chops by playing the character Buns in the fan-favorite film “Belly.”
Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal took to Instagram to pay homage to the late rapper. He posted an iconic photo of a crouching Earl “DMX Simmons to his Instagram story. The photo was accompanied solely by the words “DMX.”
Other NBA Legends Pay Their Respects To DMX
Shaq’s sentiments were shared by countless other current and former NBA players. NBA superstar LeBron James posted a picture of the rapper on Twitter.
Trae Young, the exciting Atlanta Hawks guard, did the same.

He’s an NBA legend, and we see him on TV all the time as a basketball analyst. But many may be surprised to learn that Shaq has his Ph.D.
The 7′ 1″, 325-pound former basketball player earned his doctorate in education from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.
During an interview with Dr. Oz, Shaq talked about why he continued his education.
“I went back to school because I love my mother very much and I promised her that I would continue my education,” he said. “I left school early and then she was just calling me every week, ‘Okay, you had a good game, you did this, you did that, but I need that degree’ so I got my Bachelor’s, and then I went and got my Master’s and then she said, ‘You know we don’t have any doctors in the family.’ So I said, ‘I’ll do it.’ So I attended Barry University, took me five years to get my Ph.D and it’s a wonderful thing.”
