New York Giants HC Joe Judge Slams Philadelphia Eagles for ‘Disrespecting’ the Game

The head coach of the New York Giants, Joe Judge, was not happy with the way the Philadelphia Eagles handled the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s game against the Washington Football Team.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson inexplicably benched the team’s starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, in the fourth quarter with the game still on the line. The Eagles were down 17-14 at the time when Nate Sudfeld, a third-string player, came in to finish the game. Pederson claimed he wanted to get Sudfield some meaningful game snaps.

As expected, Sudfeld’s quarter of play was a disaster. As a result, Pederson and the Eagles have come under fire for essentially throwing the game.

A few Giants players spoke earlier in the day and made sure to steer clear of any direct criticism of the Eagles. Their head coach on the other hand did not. Judge made it crystal clear what he thought about how the Eagles handled their loss to Washington, a result that kept his team out of the playoffs. He was unquestionably frustrated.

He explained himself to reporters, saying he believes it would be disrespectful to his players and to the entire league if they did not try to compete their hardest for 60 minutes in order to try to win a game.

“We will never do that as long as I am the head coach of the New York Giants,” Judge said Monday.

The New York Giants head coach isn’t the only person upset over the Eagles’ decision on Sunday night. Members of the media and fans alike have bashed the Eagles for essentially throwing the game. The loss gives Philadelphia the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

New York Giants Miss Out On Playoffs

It’s clear that at the end of the day, Joe Judge knows the reason why his football team isn’t in the postseason. That answer is plain and simple: they didn’t make enough plays to win enough games.

Judge began his answer to reporters by noting the Giants, who finished the season 6-10, had 16 opportunities of their own this season. He said, “you don’t ever want to leave your fate in the hands of anybody else.”

“So we’re not gonna make excuses as an organization,” Judge said. “Not now, not ever. We had our opportunities.”

That was the same message Judge expressed to his players during a Monday morning meeting.

New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers said he was not angry with the outcome. He had a similar response, saying you never wanting to leave your destiny in the hands of another team.

“We had 16 opportunities to make it happen,” Peppers said.

Peppers and other Giants players continue to downplay having any hard feelings toward the Eagles. Even though some of their reactions on social media may tell a different story. As it currently stands, they’ve also been able to avoid saying that next year’s matchup with the Eagles would be circled because of this incident. Though, it’s hard to imagine that the Giants won’t come out with a little extra juice when they play against Philadelphia in 2021.
