Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be on his way to winning the leagues Most Valuable Player Award.
The long time Green Bay starting quarterback just turned 37-years-old a few weeks ago and is still playing at a high level. Rodgers is completing nearly 70 percent of his passes this season for 3,685 yards. He also has 39 touchdown passes to just four interceptions and his overall quarterback rating is an absurd 119.7.
Many think Rodgers is the leader in the NFL MVP race but he is certainly not alone at the top of the list. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook are among players also in the MVP conversation alongside Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers Aiming for Third MVP Award
The prolific quarterback already has two league MVP wins with his eyes set on winning another one this year. He is one of only a handful of NFL players to win the prestigious award multiple times.
Former quarterback Peyton Manning has the most MVP awards with five. Aaron Rodgers joins quarterbacks Kurt Warner, Steve Young and Joe Montana as players to win NFL MVP twice. Other players with multiple MVP awards include quarterbacks Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Johnny Unitas and running back Jim Brown.
Despite his successful career, Rodgers admits he is miffed at not having two more MVP Trophies. According to Pro Football Talk, the quarterback says he should have also won the award in 2012 and 2016. He says “not many people have won three,” referring to the award. The quarterback says he would very much like to join that small group.
“There’s not many guys that have won three, so it would mean a lot,” he says, according to Zach Kruse of PackersWire.com.
With only three games left in 2020 regular season, Aaron Rodgers is hoping to further increase his chances of winning the award.
“I think it should live up to what it stands for as an acronym,” he says. “It’s that person who is most valuable to their team. I feel like that’s why I should be in the competition most years, and this year especially.”
