NFL: Aldon Smith Wanted by Police in Louisiana for Alleged Coffee Shop Battery

Louisiana police are searching for NFL defensive end Aldon Smith. The newly minted Seattle Seahawk is wanted for a second-degree battery at a coffee shop in New Orleans.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Aldon Smith was at a coffee shop near Home Depot in Chalmette. The defensive end allegedly committed the battery at the French Press Coffee House.

Reportedly, the entire incident was caught on video. The police are now fearing that he is on the run because of the incident. So, they put out a bulletin for the 31-year-old NFL player.

In the bulletin, they write that “The subject does not have a local address but has relatives in the New Orleans Area. [The] subject was last observed in a white in color Nissan sedan with an unknown license plate.”

With an active warrant out for his arrest, this is an ongoing story.

Aldon Smith, An NFL Defensive End, Is No Stranger to Run-Ins with Police

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Aldon Smith has gotten in trouble with the police. Over his entire career, off-field distractions have always factored into his NFL career.

Four days ago, on April 15, the defensive end signed a one-year deal worth up to $4 million. Aldon Smith was reinstated by the NFL in 2020 after serving an indefinite suspension from 2016 to 2019. There were multiple off-field incidents and violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. In 2020, he played for the Dallas Cowboys.

The six-foot-four-inch, 280 pounds, Smith played excellently last season for the Cowboys. He had five sacks and 47 total tackles in sixteen games. He showed an incredible ability to play last season after four seasons out of the NFL.

Aldon Smith’s record, sadly, is lengthy and covers a variety of issues that he has dealt with over the years. It makes sense that the 31-year-old defensive end was out of the NFL for so long.

In 2012, he was arrested for a DUI, which turned into a reckless driving charge. He was also arrested for felony charges of unlawfully carrying firearms that stemmed from charges in 2012. That arrest, however, took place in late 2013.

Later in 2013, he was involved in a car crash. After being arrested again for another DUI and possession of marijuana, he voluntarily entered rehab.

Continuing to Have Issues with Staying Out of Trouble

In 2014, the star NFL defensive end was arrested for making a false bomb threat in L.A. International Airport. Four days later, the San Francisco 49ers suspended Aldon Smith for the start of the season.

Because of the felony gun charges from 2012, the NFL suspended him for nine games in 2014. However, four months later, he was brought in for a sexual assault allegation. In this report, he was also suspected of drinking – something that he had contractually agreed to stop doing.

Nonetheless, he continued to play through 2014 and into 2015. But, in August of 2015, he was arrested in California for suspicion of DUI, hit and run, and vandalism as well. Consequently, the 49ers released Aldon Smith.

From late 2015 until early 2017, he was relatively free from police investigations. But, in February 2017, he was the subject of a domestic incident investigation. Then, less than three weeks later, he was arrested for being involved after a car he was riding in hit a police car. His girlfriend at the time was driving under the influence. He was also detained because of public intoxication.

Then in early March of 2018, Aldon Smith was wanted in connection with a domestic violence complaint. He was admitted to rehab because of the incident. Finally, in 2019, the NFL reinstated him to play. He signed with the Cowboys. This latest incident will likely mark the end of Aldon Smith’s playing career.
