After one of the most exciting games of the season, Indianapolis Colts linebacker, Darius Leonard, almost lost his wedding ring… again. In September, a similar occurrence happened when Leonard took off his glove and threw it to a fan. The wedding ring slipped off his finger and stuck in the glove. Leonard had to hunt down the ring via social media to get the ring back.

Luckily, Darius Leonard learned his lesson this time. Before launching his gloves into the stand, he checked the glove for the ring and a Colts staff member helped him fish it out.

Kayla and Darius Leonard Love Story

Darius and Kayla Leonard have known each other for about as long as they can remember. They officially met in Kindergarten, where they stood next to each other in the class picture. “We were actually in the same class,” Kayla said. “We took a picture together and we were right beside each other. Our t-shirts from kindergarten were on and we signed our names right beside each other.”

When Darius first asked Kayla out in sixth grade, she turned him down. The second time was the charm as the two started dating in eleventh grade. Both played sports and loved competition, so the relationship made sense. They dated through college despite going to different schools. “Claflin and South Carolina State have a fence that separates them,” she said. “We would hang out all the time.”

On Darius’ Senior day, he proposed to Kayla. They officially married later in the year after the Colts selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The couple didn’t have the traditional family wedding, however. Things were moving so fast, they had to tie the knot on the fly just before moving to Indianapolis.

“I got officially married in some South Carolina State shorts, a Colts t-shirt, and some Jordan retros,” he laughed. “I didn’t think we would go up there and do a ceremony. But the pictures are funny. We had a great time.”
