Seattle Seahawks Wide Receiver DK Metcalf had himself quite a game on ESPN’s most recent Monday Night Football game. Facing the Philadelphia Eagles, Metcalf topped previous career highs with 10 catches for 177 yards in the game.

After the game, Metcalf revealed he had a little extra motivation for the matchup from a pregame conversation. Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz reportedly told the receiver that he is not yet comparable to “Megatron.” The Megatron moniker was given to former Detroit Lions great Calvin Johnson during his time in the NFL for his immense size and skill.

While Schwartz certainly didn’t mean to insult Metcalf, the pregame banter gave the receiver extra motivation. Schwartz coached Megatron for several years when he was the Lions’ head coach.

Before the game, Schwartz allegedly told Metcalf that he is the closet thing to Calvin Johnson that the NFL currently has. In a early Tuesday morning tweet, NFL Reporter John Clark breaks down the conversation between the coach and player.

“Jim Schwartz says he complimented DK before the game,” Clark says. “Told him he has got a ton of respect for him and he was with Calvin in Detroit and he’s the closet thing he has seen to Megatron. Jim told him after the game ‘You may not be Calvin, but you are on your way.’ He was complimenting @dkm14 both times.”

Metcalf Reacts to ‘Megatron’ comments

While the defensive coordinator seemingly meant no offense to Metcalf, the receiver says he took the comment to heart. Following up on Clark’s tweet, Metcalf tweets a Michael Jordan meme saying he took the comment personally.
