With their star quarterback, Drew Brees, out, New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Taysom Hill led his team to victory. Now, Brees is talking up Hill’s game on Sunday as the Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons 24-9.

Hill played an excellent game, throwing for 200 yards while also rushing for 51 yard and two scores in Brees’ absence. The future NFL Hall-of-Famer says his understudy’s play on Sunday was “magnificent,” according to Pro Football Talk.

“Listen, I thought he played great,” Brees says. “I thought he managed everything about this week, about the preparation and then obviously just the way he played. I thought it was magnificent.”

In addition to quarterback, Hill has played other roles for the team.

“Obviously, we know the role that Taysom has played up to this point, as a guy who comes in, as a physical runner. Obviously, he has caught a bunch of passes. He’s blocked for a bunch of guys. He’s done so many things. Yet, I felt like (Sunday) was an opportunity for him to showcase so many of his other talents, really his ability to play the quarterback position all the way around. I felt like he was great in and out of the huddle, great with the tempo.

Brees continued by adding: “Made some really nice throws down the field, avoiding pressure, some great scrambles. All in all, I felt like our offense had great tempo, great rhythm and obviously that starts at the quarterback position.”

Brees Remains on Injured Reserve

It isn’t yet known when Brees may return to the Saints’ lineup after suffering multiple injuries. Last week, The Saints placed the quarterback on Injured Reserve, meaning he will miss a significant amount of game action.

It is expected Hill will continue with the first team offense until Brees is able to return. The Saints also have former first overall NFL draft pick Jameis Winston the roster, though he has yet to see significant playing time for the team.
