Former National Football League great Troy Aikman is recognizing the men and women who made freedom possible in America.

Troy Aikman’s tribute comes on Memorial Day, a holiday set aside to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Aikman took to social media on Monday to post his heartfelt tribute. His post includes a quote from former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the Instagram post, Aikman gives a heartfelt thank you to those who fought for our freedom. He also reminds us that those people should not be forgotten.

“Thank you to the men and women who have served our country, fought for our freedoms and gave the ultimate sacrifice,” Troy Aikman says in the post.

He concludes his Instagram post with a praying hands emoji. Along with the words of inspiration, he includes a photo of an American Flag that appears to be dropped over a casket. It is customary that an American Flag is placed over the caskets of recently deceased military personnel.

Troy Aikman Shares Quote From Former President

In the second photo of Troy Aikman’s Memorial Day post is a quote from former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The former president’s words remind us that we should always pay respect to the men and women who fight and die so that we might have freedom.

“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them,” the post states.

Troy Aikman’s Memorial Day Instagram took in a lot of attention with several of his fans and followers joining in. May used the post’s comments section to provide their own tribute to the men and women of service.

Today, millions of Americans will attend Memorial Day services across the country to honor the fallen. Others will pay their respects in their own way such as flying the American Flag at their home.

Now an announcer for Fox Sports NFL broadcasts, Troy Aikman is one of the most celebrated players in league history. He was the first overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft out of UCLA, where he had a tremendous collegiate career. He played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys through all 12 of his NFL seasons and his accolades and accomplishment are many.

Troy Aikman won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys, claiming MVP honors in one of those wins. He is a member of the NFL Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame.
