Players on the New York Jets have reportedly found a hidden camera in their locker room and have alert NFL authorities to the situation.

The New York Daily News reports Jets players recently told the NFL Players Association they found the surveillance camera hidden inside of a smoke detector in their locker room. Pro Football Talk (PFT) says the NFLPA has gotten the complaints and are now looking at the appropriate action to take.

The NFLPA reportedly told league officials of the discovery and the league contends no further action is necessary by the Jets.

PFT says sources, who reportedly have knowledge of the situation, say the New York Jets organization believes the cameras serve a legitimate purpose. They say cameras are in place to protect players and others inside the locker rooms. The source says the cameras are there to capture evidence should an incident occur and are not routinely under monitor.

The Jets once had an incident in 2015 that would seemingly warrant the presence of a hidden security camera. Linebacker IK Enemkpali struck then-quarterback Geno Smith, breaking Smith’s jaw. Witnesses to the event say the linebacker threw a “sucker punch” at the quarterback, connecting with his jaw bone. Thereafter, Smith was on the sidelines for several weeks after the incident took place.

The Jets, per PFT’s source, contend the camera does not violate any laws and that players know the cameras exist.

The lowly Jets are winless in the 2020 season with eight straight losses. They are in last place in the AFC East division. They will take on the New England Patriots on ESPN’s Monday Night Football next week. The Patriots are also in the midst of a disappointing 2020 season with a 2-5 record.
