NFL’s Josh Allen at ‘Loss for Words’ After Buffalo Bills Fans’ Donate To Honor Late-Grandmother

The NFL’s Josh Allen is speechless after Buffalo Bills fans donate to a local children’s hospital in remembrance of his late grandmother.

Josh Allen’s grandmother, Patricia, unexpectedly died on Saturday at the age of 80. After the NFL’s Reddit page posted about the loss, Buffalo Bills fans took matters into their own hands. They honored Patricia by giving Buffalo’s Oishei Children’s Hospital donations of $17. The number 17 is significant because it is Allen’s number for the Bills.

As of yesterday afternoon, the hospital reported more than $34,650 in donations. They have even updated their website and made a $17 donation button that features the Bills Zubaz design for easy access for the fans. In a tweet, the hospital thanked everyone that has participated.

An hour ago, the hospital gave an update on the donations.

“Good morning #BillsMafiaOn the hospital’s 3rd birthday today, you gave us the best gift by donating over $200,000 in memory of @JoshAllenQB grandmother. And special thanks to the non-Bills fans jumping in to support our cause as well! This is special, and we are grateful.”

Josh Allen said on the Bill’s website that he is “at a loss of words” over the fanbase’s kindness.

“I can’t tell you how special it is to see the outpouring of support for me and my family during this tough time. The donations made to OCH in honor of my grandmother would make her so proud. Thank you, Bills Mafia! It is an honor to be your quarterback.”

NFL’s Dedicated Fanbase

This isn’t the first time the dedicated fanbase has pulled together for a player. In 2017, quarterback Andy Dalton led the Bengals to a late touchdown and win over the Ravens. That win sent the Bill to the playoff for the first time since 1999. To thank the rival quarterback, Bills fans donated to Dalton’s charity in $14 increments. The charity raised over $400,000.

A Special Sunday for Josh Allen

Less than 24 after Allen got news of his grandmother’s passing, he played the best game of his professional career with three touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. He also completed 31 for 38 passes for 415 yards. The Bills beat the Seahawks 44 to 34. The Seahawks were 6-1 prior to the game and are currently in first place in the NFC West.

Allen’s mother, Lavonne, also took to Twitter to honor Patricia and what Sundays meant to her.

“It was a very rough day yesterday but grammy wouldn’t have had it any other way but to have Josh out on that field with his family/teammates,” Josh’s mother tweeted. “She lived for Sundays to watch her grandson and favorite team the Bills. Grammy and Papa had the best seats in the house.”
