Matthew Stafford is expected to play Sunday when the Lions head North to Minnesota. Fans were worried after it was reported earlier this week that their quarterback may have tested positive for COVID-19. But Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly Stafford, took to Instagram — again — to set everyone straight.
“I appreciate everyone reaching out and giving us well wishes when actually we are fine,” Kelly Stafford said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “We are all negative. My husband is negative. There was just a certain exposure, so we’ve been testing since our exposure and we are all negative.”
Stafford must isolate for five days of the close contact, which happened on Monday, The Freep reported. The NFL will allow him to return to the team if he continues to test positive during the isolation period, per league rules. Kelly Stafford said in her video the family, including Matt, has continually tested negative.
This is the second time the NFL has put Stafford on the reserve/COVID-19 list without him ever catching the virus. And the second time Matthew Stafford’s wife has had to clean-up misinformation.

On July 31, Matt Stafford caught COVID-19. At least, that’s what the NFL reported, according to multiple news outlets. Turns out, it was a false positive, but it took four days for that news to come out.
The NFL apologized and changed how it completed its testing to avoid this happened again. But that wasn’t enough for Kelly Stafford, who felt her family had been harassed and bullied because of the false positive news. She expressed her frustrations in an Instagram post and slammed the NFL.

Even after we knew it was false positive, our school told us they were not allowed back, I was approached in a grocery store and told I was ‘endangering others,’ my kids were harassed and kick off a playground, I was told I needed to wait in my car when trying to pick up food, and people closest to us had to get tested just so they could go back to work.. and that’s just to name a few things.
I don’t blame these scenarios on any of the people directly involved. … I understand where they are coming from, but I do blame the @NFL, I blame the @NFL for not holding themselves accountable. These are people’s lives and livelihoods that are in those results in THEIR test sites. Maybe we should be absolutely positive a person has covid before releasing that info to the world. I’m sharing our experience because I don’t want it happening to any other family that plays for this league.
