NFL: Poll Reveals Which Fanbase Drinks the Most Beer on Average During Games

Whether it’s to have a good time, a timeless tradition, or a way to cope with being a fan of an awful team, there’s one NFL fanbase that knocks back more drinks than any of the others.

A poll was conducted to figure out which team’s fans drank the most while watching a game.

According to a poll from SportsHandle, the Cincinnati Bengals are driving their fans to drink. Fans drink an average of 5.2 drinks per game. Next on the list is the Baltimore Ravens fans that drink 4.7 drinks per game. The Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers are next up on that list.

Interestingly enough, on the other side of the spectrum sits the San Francisco 49ers. These fans only consume a modest 2.6 drinks per game. The New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans are also on the lower end of drinking while watching NFL.

Does that make them just less fun on game day or are their teams just more bearable to watch?

This poll was conducted over a nine-day period in June and reached over 2,000 NFL fans. All of them were over 21 and the average age came to about 38.

The Bengals definitely aren’t the best team out there. During the 2020 season, the team had four wins and 11 losses. However, no team was worse than the Jaguars. They finished up their season with just one win compared to 15 painful losses.

NFL Players Who Have Admitted to Drinking Before a Game

Josh Gordon is a former NFL player for nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and Seattle Seahawks. Gordon had several instances in which he was caught breaking the league’s substance abuse policy.

He has since been vocal about his problems with drugs and alcohol earlier in his life. “I would have these pre-made little shots … I used to make a ritual of it before every game,” Gordon told CBS Sports in 2017.

He admitted he drank or used drugs before each game.

Similarly, Santana Moss, a wide receiver for 14 seasons in the NFL, also made alcohol a part of his football career. He admitted in the past that he would take a shot before a game in order to take playing a little less seriously.

“And that was just kind of having fun. You know what, let’s take that stress out of our heads and say let’s just have fun and not care so much. Because sometimes as players, you put so much pressure on yourself to go out there and perform. Man, let’s relax,” Moss said to The Washington Post in 2017.
