NFL: Tim Tebow Speaks Out After Release from the Jacksonville Jaguars

Tim Tebow’s highly-anticipated return to the NFL after a near-10 year hiatus has fizzled out following his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now a free agent, Tebow took to Twitter and delivered a statement to thank everyone who has supported him in the endeavor.

On Saturday, Tebow made his debut at tight end for the Jaguars in their first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. He turned in an underwhelming performance, and as a result, has been released from the team.

Tebow came under fire for one particular play that summed up his entire game. He threw a half-hearted block on a run which demonstrated his hesitance to play physically at the tight end position. In the wake of his release, he stated his gratitude for the opportunity to pursue his dream once more.

“Thankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks. I’ve never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I’m grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream…,” Tebow wrote.

“Thank you to the @Jaguars organization and everyone who has supported me in this journey. And we know that…God works all things together for good. Romans 8:28,” he followed up.

NFL Fans Had Mixed Feelings Toward Tebow’s Stint with the Jaguars

For many, Tim Tebow’s return to the NFL at the tight end position was unwelcome. Here’s a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who finally decided to switch positions in his mid-30s. Players spend their whole lives dedicated to specific positions with the dream of making it onto an NFL roster. Tim Tebow’s presence represented an opportunity that a true tight end otherwise might have had.

Due to this, there was a fair amount of animosity toward Tebow on Twitter.

“Thanks Tim for bowing out gracefully. This was a sham of an experience! A sham! You got kids that play that position all their life and never get an opportunity to go to training camp or play in a preseason game. Thanks again for nothing!” a disappointed Jags fan replied.

“Well I can say I’m not surprised one bit. And now someone who could have really used that opportunity to change their lives forever and it was stolen from them because of you and your privilege hopefully can get the chance again to make it. Good riddance,” another echoed.

All of that being said, there were just as many fans out there who offered Tebow words of support.

“Way to give it your all champ! All things are possible through Christ! Say a prayer for my daughter, please. She is 6 years old non verbal autistic. She’s my entire world! God please release the boundaries that are holding my kiddo back from talking and coming out. Love!”
