Patrick Mahomes Rookie Card Sold For Insane Price Making it the Most Expensive Football Card Ever

Patrick Mahomes didn’t beat Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, but the Kansas City quarterback did get some bragging rights over his counterpart in Tampa Bay.

Mahomes’ rookie card sold for a massive amount — $4.3 million. Brady’s rookie card demanded an impressive price, but at $3.1 million. When it comes to competing with Tom Brady on anything, you have to take the victories where you can get them.

Patrick Mahomes read the news about his rookie card and had a classic Texas-kind of reaction.

“My goodness,” he tweeted, which was punctuated by the shocked-face emoji.

 Here are some of the details that upped the price into the stratosphere. The Patrick Mahomes rookie card is a 2017 Panini National Treasure. It features the quarterback’s signature, plus the cutout of an NFL shield from one of his Kansas City jerseys. Its grade of 8.5 from the Beckett Grading Services means the card is in pristine condition. It uses a scale of 1 to 10 and scrutinizes the card’s quality, centering and overall condition

So who bought the Patrick Mahomes card? LJ’s Card Shop in Ohio purchased the Mahomes memento.

“We are honored to add this card to our collection.”

PWCC, one of the biggest marketplaces for sports cards and collectibles, announced that the Mahomes card sold at auction.

“This is one of the most desirable and important modern-day trading card assets in our entire market,” said Jesse Craig, director of business development a PWCC. “And (it’s) the most sought-after Patrick Mahomes card on the planet. We are very pleased to bring buyer and seller together to broker this truly one-of-a-kind piece.”

Patrick Mahomes Blew Away The Brady Record

Tom Brady held the record for a few months. His autographed rookie card from 2000 generated a price of $3.1 million in March.

Both quarterbacks started their training camps over the law few days.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have a ton of motivation for the season. The main goal is winning back the Super Bowl. Thy were the defending Super Bowl champions last season, only to lose that title to Brady and Tampa Bay, 31-9.

Injuries decimated the Chiefs’ offensive line by the end of the playoffs. And Mahomes struggled, mightily. He completed 26 of his 49 attempts for only 270 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown and the Tampa Bay defense intercepted him twice.

Patrick Mahomes also played most of the post-season with a bad toe. He had surgery after the Super Bowl, but before the birth of his daughter, Sterling, to repair ligaments in his big toe.

Reports out of Chiefs training camp suggest that Mahomes’ toe has healed.
