Paulina Gretzky threw herself a helluva birthday party Saturday night. It would’ve probably gone unnoticed in any other year, but 2020.
Since most of the world is fighting a deadly wave of Covid-19, Gretzky got a lot of social media blowback by appearing to throw a party with seemingly no pandemic restrictions.
Gretzky posted video clips of the party on her Instagram account late Saturday. It was clear that few, if any guests, wore masks as they partied indoors.
Paulina Gretzky Was Celebrating Her 32nd Birthday
Gretzky was in a festive mood when she posted the birthday video, which celebrated her 32nd year. She wore a sparkly, rainbow, designer mini-dress. Her friends surprised her with a parade of sparklers and Dom Perignon bottles. (Considering each bottle cost a minimum of $150, that was quite the expensive parade.)
Gretzsky posted: “IM SO GRATEFUL FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW SPECIAL YOU MADE ME FEEL AHD ILL NEVER FORGET IT.”
She first thanked long-time fiancé, Dustin Johnson, the star golfer who is fresh off his Masters Win. The couple have two children together. They’ve been celebrating since Johnson won the Masters last month. The prestigious tournament was rescheduled from April to November because of the pandemic.
The two traveled to St. Barth’s after The Masters. Gretzsky’s birthday party was in the Bahamas.
Many social media users were enraged that no one at the party was wearing a mask. Or that Gretzky threw the party in the first place.
But it’s likely party goers already had passed some Covid requirements to travel to the Bahamas. Travelers to the island must show they’ve had a negative Covid test within five days of arrival. That’s required with a passport.
Once there, people must wear masks in public places, although masks aren’t required on beaches. There also are curfews.
However, it’s unclear if these rules cover private parties at hotels.
The restrictions say that mask violators are subject to a $250 fine or one month in jail. Hotels also have their own restrictions for guests.
