On Monday, the foursome playing in The Match III golf tournament got together to speak about the event, and Charles Barkley and Peyton Manning have already hilariously begun the trash talking.

This will be the third The Match golf tournament, which includes celebrities pairing up for a round of golf for charity. Pro golfer Phil Mickelson is paired with legendary NBA star Charles Barkley – also known for his terrible golf swing. Additionally, former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning will be paired with current NBA superstar Steph Curry. Manning and Curry are both superb golfers for not being professionals, but Mickelson will likely be picking up Barkley’s slack.

Barkley and Manning’s pre-tournament banter is a sure sign of a fun round of golf scheduled for this Friday. In fact, the tournament’s organizers want the charity event to become a Black Friday tradition.

All the golfers will be mic’d up. Therefore, viewers won’t miss a shot on the course, or any verbal shots fired at their opponents. However, the verbal jabs were already flying during a Zoom call preview of the tourney.

There were plenty of jokes thrown around during the Zoom call. But, Manning and Barkley had everyone rolling with one particular exchange.

Barkley said he’s been working on his game tirelessly for a month now, at least five hours a day for the last month. In addition, Barkley said he’s even played the exact tournament course three times recently – Stone Canyon in Oro Valley, AZ. He said he would be disappointed if he didn’t play well. Mainly because he’s practiced so much and doesn’t want to let his partner Mickelson down.

Next, Barkley went after Manning and his alma mater, the University of Tennessee. Barkley went to SEC rival Auburn University, so shots were fired.

“You know, Peyton, I just got to make sure he got my phone number. He texts me all the time,” Barkley explained. “But, since Tennessee hasn’t won a [football] game, it’s been a few weeks since he texted me!”

The players all laughed before Manning roasted “The Round Mound of Rebound.”

“That’s kind of news to me that Charles has been to Stone Canyon three times. He hasn’t played golf. He’s just gone there to eat three times,” Manning joked. “They have a great lunch and dinner service. So, this will be his first time playing the course in the actual match on Friday.”

There’s many more amusing exchanges during the 22-minute tournament preview. Barkley made fun of Manning and Curry’s Hall of Fame chances, which are basically guaranteed. And of course, everyone joked about Barkley’s awful golf swing.

Capital One’s The Match: Champions for Change airs on Friday, Nov. 27, at 3 p.m. ET at Stone Canyon Golf Club in Oro Valley, AZ. You can watch the full preview below.
