Following the death of John Madden, Peyton Manning opened up about a hilarious Chili’s experience he had with the football legend.

While enjoying some Monday Night Football with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Peyton Manning recalled the experience with the late football coach and sportscaster.“I’ll never forget the time we went to Chili’s… they ran out of chili and Coach Madden could not get over that.”

As previously reported, John Madden passed away on December 28th unexpectedly at the age of 85. The NFL Commission Roger Goodell released a statement about Madden’s passing. “On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to [Madden’s wife] Virginia, Mike, Joe, and their families. We all know him as the Fall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network. But more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.”

John Madden notably coached the Oakland Raiders for ten seasons from 1969 to 1978. He coached them to Super Bowl XI in 1977.  Following his retirement from coaching, Madden became a color commentator for NFL telecasts until 2009. He won a total of 16 Sports Emmy Awards.

Peyton Manning also issued a statement about how he always enjoyed production meetings because he was able to talk about football with Madden. “Even after he stopped breading, he and I stayed in touch. I had a special conversation with him on the day I found out I was being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

Peyton Manning also noted that he called just a few people about the news. Madden was one of those people. “We had a great, long conversation. I always appreciated his friendship and support of my football career.”

Manning went on to add that there will never be another like Madden. “May God’s peace be with his family. Rest in peace, Coach Madden.”

Along with Peyton Manning, others honored the late NFL coach. Broadcaster Vin Scully also tweeted that Manning was one of the all-time greats. “He showed me the ropes during our brief football partnership. He was always kind and delightful. He can now join his former partner, Pat Summerall, in calling Super Bowls in heaven.”

Tom Brady also spoke about his relationship with Madden. “I obviously got to know him for a long period of time just being in the sport. A lot of production meetings with me and shot commercials together. I just had a lot of respect for him and what he meant to the game as a head coach and as an analyst.”

Brady also described Madden as being an amazing football legend. “He meant a lot to the game. I think he entertained a lot of people. He brought a lot of joy to people’s hearts. He was a great man. Lived a great life.”
