Cam Heyward will be wearing special footwear to honor his late father when he and his team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, take the field against the Washington Football Team.

Heading into Week 13, the Pittsburgh Steelers will play against the Washington Football Team.

Cam Heyward Honors his Late Father

The Steelers’ defensive lineman Cam Heyward will be sporting a special pair of footwear in memory of his late father, “IronHead” Craig Heyward.

Craig passed down his football skills to his son, as he was also a Pro-Bowler during his 11-year NFL career.

However, Craig’s career ended when he was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 32. He passed away from the terrible disease seven years later. He was only 39.

Heyward will be wearing special cleats, as he partners with the V Foundation.

The Special Footwear Made for a Special NFL Player

The cleats will have the picture of Cam’s father imprinted on them, as well as the late Jim Valvano, the V Foundation’s co-founder.

One of the cleats includes “Victo39ry Over Cancer.” The other side includes an incredibly powerful message, especially during these times, with that being “Don’t Give Up.”

“Looking back on this collaboration, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to work together,” Heyward said in a statement. “The Jimmy V Foundation represents the perseverance and strive for moving cancer research forward. As the people running the foundation want to make Jimmy V proud, I want the same on behalf of my dad who also suffered from cancer. Hopefully, we continue to make them proud. It is a true honor to work with the Jimmy V Foundation.”

Each December, the league lets players choose an important cause with the My Cause, My Cleats campaign. The NFL doesn’t discriminate against any of the players when it comes to the color of their cleats. Instead, the league aids those players in auctioning the specific footwear in raising money for the cause of the chosen charities.
