Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay is planning for defensive tackle Aaron Donald to be ready for Saturday’s game with Green Bay.
“Unless something unforeseen happens, the Terminator will be ready,” McVay said when talking to reporters.
Did you think McVay was talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Nope. He is referring to Donald.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that Donald has torn rib cartilage, per sources informed of the situation. It’s a painful injury, but one that Donald is expected to play through.
The extent of Donald’s injury wasn’t known after he exited Saturday’s victory over Seattle early in the third quarter after a hit on Russell Wilson. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Sunday that Donald didn’t crack his ribs. Now we know it was a cartilage tear.
The unanimous All-Pro defensive tackle suffered the injury while rolling over Wilson. He appeared to struggle breathing on the sideline and never returned to the contest after taking several trips to the locker room. Garafolo previously reported that Donald could have gone back in the game if needed.
Through 16 games, Donald has 13.5 sacks and 27 total tackles.
Sean McVay Recalls Being Deion Sanders Fan As A Kid
Meanwhile, NFL Films released a clip last year of some of the league’s current coaches speaking about their all-time favorite players, including Sean McVay.
McVay shared that as a child his grandfather worked with the San Francisco 49ers organization.
Therefore, the Rams coach got to enjoy some of the perks of his granddad’s job, including going to games with his family. The NFL Films clip even shows a picture of a young McVay holding an NFL football on the 49ers sideline. In addition, the photo includes men who presumably are his grandfather and father.
McVay admits how lucky he is to have grown up around the game of professional football. Additionally, he says that his family lived in Atlanta, Ga., at the time, so he became a huge Deion Sanders fan as a kid. The Hall of Fame cornerback played for the Atlanta Falcons for five seasons from 1989-1994.
Sanders was all the rage in the early 1990s after coming out of Florida State University. He not only played football but played baseball, too, as one of the only two-sport athletes in professional sports history. In fact, for a time, he played for two teams in the same city when he played for both the Falcons and Atlanta Braves.
