When Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram was released this week, it didn’t stop his team from giving him a proper goodbye.
Ingram was with the Ravens for the past two seasons before the team’s elimination in the NFL playoffs, causing him to be waived from the team.
If you’re lucky enough to become a player in the NFL, chances are you’ll wind up getting released and traded various times—that’s the business side of the NFL.
Mark Ingram Gets Proper Send-Off Following Release
Even though releaseing a player is commonplace in the NFL, it doesn’t make it any less emotional for the players.
As a way to give Ingram his well-deserved sendoff, players gifted him jerseys with personalized messages written on them.
During his time playing for the Ravens, Ingram rushed for 1,317 yards and scored 12 touchdowns.
In 2019 Ingram made it to the Pro Bowl. The veteran player will now head into the offseason looking to sign with a new team.
He proved his athletic talent early in his career and was a leader in the clubhouse.
Ingram Posts Tribute To Former Team On Social Media
Ingram said his farewells to the Ravens via social media on Monday, calling the team “a first class organization.”
He posted on Twitter: “I love the real ones in flock nation that supported me and showed luv! My blood brothers, whats understood Ain gotta be explained. Best is still ahead, cant wait! Watch God work. #GodWins #BigTrussForever.”
In 2011, Ingram was a first-round pick by the Saints. He spent his first eight seasons in New Orleans and reached the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2017.
In 2019, he signed a three-year contract with the Ravens, which was reportedly a $15 million deal.
Ingram averaged 4.2 yards per carry during his time with the team but had just 72 attempts for 299 yards.
Despite a challenging season that left him with less time on the field, Ingram kept his positive attitude and continued mentoring the Ravens’ younger running backs.
“We are making the tough business decision to terminate Mark Ingram’s contract,” General Manager Eric DeCosta stated. “Mark is a talented winner who brought passion, toughness, leadership and chemistry to the Ravens. He contributed in so many meaningful ways on and off the field, and we wish him the very best as he continues his career.”
While Ingram’s future in football may be unclear, there’s no doubt his former teammates will be rooting for him.
