There are many things that make an elite football player. Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski has all of those things except maybe the desire to watch film.
Gronk made an appearance on the Peyton and Eli Manning mega cast during the Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. And while he was on the show, he hilariously admits to the Manning brothers that he doesn’t care about watching any game film on his own time. Instead, he just askes his future Hall of Fame quarterback for the scoop each week.
The Bucs tight end explained as much to Peyton and Eli Manning. He said that he actually just had a conversation about this the other day with fellow Tampa Bay tight end Cameron Brate.
“He goes, ‘Rob, I got a serious question. Do you ever watch film?’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t. I just run by guys,'” he explained. “And if I’m feeling good I’m feeling good. So I don’t know how to answer that Eli. I don’t watch film.”
Even though he doesn’t go out of his way to study tape during his off time, Gronk said he does pay attention during the team film sessions.
“I do watch film when the team is showing it.”
Of course, there is no way to get out of a mandatory team tape study. So Rob Gronkowski definitely learns a thing or two about the upcoming game for that week during those. But other than that, he relies solely on his quarterback and his close friend, Tom Brady, to fill him in.
“I actually do go up to Tom cause I know Tom watches like 40 hours of film a week,” he says with a smile. “I go, ‘Tom, who’s covering me this week? What type of coverages are they doing?’ That’s why I go, ‘I love playing with you Tom, you always know everything.'”

Safe to say that Rob Gronkowski is even more of a legend now than he was before.
Pat McAfee Responds to Rob Gronkowski’s Claim That He Doesn’t Watch Film
One way or another, for better or for worse, Rob Gronkowski always seems to have his name in the media. His comments on the Peyton and Eli Manning mega cast during Monday Night Football have done that once again.
This time around, Gronk’s claim caught the eye of former NFL punter and current radio show host Pat McAfee. From one funny guy to another, McAfee was definitely able to appreciate Gronk’s latest comments. He quoted the veteran tight end as saying, “I don’t watch film. I just run by guys.” And he included several laughing emojis.
Now, it’s hard to say whether Rob Gronkowski was just kidding around about not watching film. But to be honest, whatever he does to prepare for each week has been working. During his prime, the five-time Pro Bowler was one of the most dominant at his position in league history. And he’s gotten off to a hot start here in 2021 as well.
