Rousey and her husband Travis Browne welcomed their very first child together, a daughter named La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne, in September. The 34-year-old initially shared the exciting news with her fans and the rest of the world with a photo on Instagram.
Ronda Rousey on Breastfeeding in Public and Motherhood
Now, the new mother is speaking out about removing some of the stigma surrounding breastfeeding.
Ronda Rousey is telling her fans her opinion about those that are uncomfortable with women breastfeeding in public. She wants people to continue to publically normalize this path many people take while raising a child.
“Motherhood’s some badass, primal, beautiful s**t that shouldn’t be hidden,” she wrote in a new Instagram post. Rousey is fighting for all the women out there to continue to make choices for their bodies. The post also had a picture of Rousey breastfeeding her daughter in front of the camera.
“Our boys asked me the other day how I’m gunna feed Pō on the plane when we take her with us to Hawaii. And I was like, ‘uhhh, same way I always do’ … Then it occurred to me that they probably never seen anyone breastfeed before and weren’t sure if it was appropriate in public. … It still blows my mind that my body assembled this little person, pushed her out and now makes everything she needs to thrive. It’s really nothing to be ashamed of, it’s something to brag about,” she also wrote in the post.
Fans of the UFC star were quick to agree with her sentiment. One person wrote, “Grown people eat in public, babies should be allowed to too. It’s that simple.” Meanwhile, someone else wrote, “Love this post!!!!”
This is the couple’s first child together since getting married in 2017. Browne has two kids from his ex-wife as well.
According to Us Weekly, the couple has long been vocal about wanting to start a family together. She opened up about the vulnerability of it all in an interview in 2019. “With me and my husband trying to start a family, we are very fortunate to be in a very secure position now. But that is not something that is foolproof, you know, anybody can lose everything at any time. This is not something that’s like, you know, just the problem of a few,” she said.
Other Celebrities Working to Normalize Breastfeeding
Ronda Rousey isn’t the only person to consistently work to normalize breastfeeding.
For example, popular Australian snowboarder Torah Bright shared an image of herself doing a headstand while breastfeeding her baby. It’s hard to beat that level of skill and overall epicness.
Several other celebrities have also used social media to continue to normalize breastfeeding. This includes Mandy Moore, Halsey, Alanis Morissette, Ashley Graham, and Eva Longoria.
Popular actor Shay Mitchell shared a photo breastfeeding her daughter Atlas Noa in December 2019. She captioned it simply, “Breast Friends.”
