Ronda Rousey Goes Off on Simone Biles Critics Slamming Her for Withdrawing at 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Former UFC star and Olympic medalist Ronda Rousey is hitting back at Simone Biles’ critics. The champion fighter offered her support for Biles after the GOAT gymnast dropped out of the women’s team final on Tuesday.

Following the decision, the 24-year-faced harsh criticism from some who admonished her for withdrawing. As a result, Rousey gave a stern message to her critics on Twitter and wrote that whatever the athlete is dealing with is an internal struggle.

“Everyone judging @Simone_Biles doesn’t know their foot from their a–hole when it comes to being in her position,” the mom-to-be wrote on Twitter. “She’s on the Olympic team while you’re on Twitter. Whatever is going on cannot be grasped from outside. She’s doing the absolute best she can given the situation she’s in.”

For Rousey, she knows a thing or two about the pressures of being an Olympic athlete. During her time in the MMA, Rousey represented the U.S. in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She brought home a bronze medal in judo.

As for Simone Biles, she shocked the world when she withdrew out of the event after her vault. The young gymnast later confessed to reporters that she was dealing with ongoing mental health struggles.

“I have to do what’s right for me and focus on my mental health, and not jeopardize my health and well-being,” the gold medalist told reporters.

The next day, it kept getting worse for Biles and Team USA when she dropped out of the individual all-around contest.

“After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles was withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health,” USA Gymnastics wrote in a statement on Wednesday.

Simone Biles Receives Both Support and Criticism From Former MMA Fighters

“Simone will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week’s individual event finals. Jade Carey, who had the ninth highest score in qualifications, will participate in her place in the all-around.”

They added: “We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many.” With mental health often being disregarded by many in sports, it’s great to see her team fully support Biles.

As expected, there will always be critics and subsequent backlash for these types of decisions. And sadly, Biles has not been immune to the ongoing lambasting.

In contrast to Rousey, Michael Bisping, a former MMA fighter, is one of her critics. The former UFC champion admitted not knowing anything about gymnastics or Biles’ current situation. However, he still stated that “quitters never win.”

He also quickly dismissed her decision as to having anything to do with mental health issues.
