San Diego State coach Brady Hoke didn’t seem to mind a monster case of brain freeze after his Aztecs beat UT San Antonio Monday Tuesday night in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl. Some of his players doused him with a smoothie bucket after their 38-24, a twist of the classic Gatorade bath.
Hoke was standing on the sideline as the clock wound down when two Aztecs tried to sneak up behind him with what looked like a Gatorade bucket. He must have sensed something was up because he wheeled around before they could drop their payload. They’d lost the element of surprise — or so Hoke thought.
The two players upended the bucket over their coach’s head. That’s when he found out this wasn’t a sports drink. It was syrupy smoothie. You can watch the realization hit him in waves.
In the video of the incident, Hoke seems confused about what is all over him. He rubs his hand on his wet pants and then seemingly asks his players what that was. When one of the Aztecs responds, Hoke smiles big.
Kent State players dumped a kale smoothie on their coach following the team’s win at the Smoothie Bowl in 2019. College football is fun.
It’s a weird tradition, but not as strange as the french fry bath after the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Wyoming Cowboys dumped a bucket of fries on coach Craig Bohl. He didn’t seem excited to get covered in deep-fried spuds, but his players went wild afterward.
A smoothie and fries is a good start to a fast-food order, but now I’m worried for the Gator Bowl coaches.
South Carolina Player Scrolls Instagram During Bowl Game Beating
Not everyone was so hyped to win their bowl games though. Cameras caught South Carolina State’s Shaquan Davis scrolling through Instagram on his phone while on the sideline during the Bulldogs beatdown of Jackson State.
NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders led Jackson to an 11-2 season this year, but he couldn’t hold back the onslaught Saturday night. South Carolina took the Tigers apart 31-10 to win the Celebration Bowl. The game got so out of hand that David decided to see what was happening on social media during the game.
He’d earned the moment. Shaq finished the night with five receptions and 95 yards along with three touchdowns.
Sanders said his team deserved to lose, adding he thought the Bulldogs outplayed his Tigers were outplayed on both sides of the ball.
“South Carolina State kicked our butts,” Primetime said. “In every way imaginable. They out-physicaled us, out-threw us. Much more disciplined than us. And I feel like we were over-confident and overlooked them as if they were just going to hand us the game.”
