The Seattle Seahawks rolled over the New York Jets 40-3 in a blowout win. Most noticeably, Jamal Adams had a great game against his former team as well.

Adams, who was traded to the Seahawks from the Jets earlier this year, finally got his revenge. And, he did so in a fantastic way. The 2019 All-Pro safety set an NFL record for the fastest defensive back to eight sacks in a single season.

Adams earns the record in just nine games but also has a leg up in the race. He actually has 8.5 sacks this year with a few games left to play.

The record was previously held by Adrian Wilson, who took sixteen games to get to that mark. Adams has also missed a total of four games this year.

Additionally, the strong safety was well-aware of the history he could make in the game. So, before the game, Adams said that it would be “sweet” to get to the mark while playing the Jets.

Even though he dropped an easy interception, Adams left his mark on the game. He finished with five tackles, one sack, as well as one tackle for a loss. This performance helps the Seahawks improve to 9-4 on the season and keeps the Jets winless at 0-13.

Jamal Adams’ Elite Pass Rushing

The Seahawks’ safety reached the record-setting mark in the second quarter when he got to Sam Darnold for a one-yard loss. This sack brings his career total to 20.5 sacks.

Additionally, Adams’ 20.5 sacks is an incredible mark. He has played only 55 total games in four seasons. Moreover, he is the only DB to reach twenty-plus sacks before playing 100 total games. His total career sacks help him pass Charles Woodson on the all-time sack list. However, the NFL first started counting defensive back sacks in 1982, so there might be someone who has more.

It is worth noting that Adams is only 25 years old. He is currently tied with the great Rodney Harrison for most sacks by a defensive back before their 30th birthday.

Despite widespread fan criticism about the manor in which he joined the Seahawks this year, Adams is certainly an elite safety in the NFL.
