On Monday, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal amusingly celebrated National Pumpkin Day by shooting 40 pumpkins at a basketball hoop.
In collaboration with Carnival Cruise Line, Shaq’s official Twitter account posted a hilarious video of the former All-Star dressed as a cruise ship captain using pumpkins in place of basketballs. The 7’1″ former NBA star palmed many of the huge pumpkins as he shot free throws, three pointers, and lay-ups.
The post read: “No Halloween cruise this year, so I did what had to be done… Throw forty pumpkins at a basketball hoop. @CarnivalCruise #Carnival #PumpkinBall”
The video opens with O’Neal throwing a pumpkin one-handed off the backboard as it somehow drops in the basket. O’Neal swerves around to the camera in surprise making a bemused face at the shot.
Next, O’Neal introduces the short video saying, “Welcome to the Pumpkin Carnival Ball!” As he shoots a pumpkin over his shoulder without looking, instead of saying “nothing but net,” he jokes “nothing but pumpkin.” However, O’Neal’s shot comes nowhere close to the net. In fact, it bounces off the backboard and bursts open on the basketball court.
The four-time NBA champion goes on to hit numerous pumpkin shots from all over the court. The 40 smashed pumpkins start to pile up quickly all over the hardwood floor underneath the basketball goal. O’Neal goes on to announce a free Carnival cruise vacation to a winner named Linda.
Finally, O’Neal smashes a pumpkin on the floor and ends the video by saying, “Well, there’s always next pumpkin season.”
